Who doesn't know Miguel Mihura? Who doesn't know he was one of the most important humorists of the 20th century? Who has forgotten that his first play, Three Top Hats, was a precursor to absurdist humor? Who is unaware that this story is, in fact, autofiction? "Miguel Mihura looks like a man who's grown sad from waiting so long for the bus," wrote Fernando Vizcaíno Casas in one of the playwright's last interviews in 1976. And indeed, Miguel's life was full of disappointments, waiting, heartbreak, failures, and the occasional success that appeared almost at the end of his life. One such success, Three Top Hats, came when he finally managed to stage it twenty years after writing it. His life story, in one way or another, was always linked to his first play. The one who lived, then wrote, tried to sell, dismissed, despised, reluctantly premiered, and finally elevated it to become part of the history of dramatic literature.
