Picasso's The Barber is a comedy of characters who live heated lives, which for anyone could be madness.

This happens because they are genuinely Spanish.

That barbershop that Borja describes in Picasso's The Barber is an anarchic piece of Spain lost in the south of France.

Picasso and the Barber, within this microcosm, are Spaniards who feel nostalgia for a homeland that no longer exists and never will. A homeland they construct through their arguments and customs. In their arguments over whether a bullfighter is better or worse, or whether a goat is the right gift for Picasso's genius or whether someone is trying to make fun of him.

A place, and a time, where being a communist is still a possibility.

That barbershop is a world full of passions and contradictions that only exists between those scissors and brushes.

Crossing its doors, outside, France, the land of freedom. But a country that will never be that of this barber and this painter. Because they are no longer French or Spanish.

They are the citizens of that invented homeland that any exile constructs.

A Spain that only exists when the barber and the painter argue about it.

A place they cannot inhabit without each other.
