The people of Thebes revive their three great myths as a tragic chorus: King Oedipus seeks his father's murderer to end the curse on the city; salvation depends on revealing the most terrible secret. Eteocles, Oedipus's son, defends Thebes from the attack of his brother Polynices, in a war to the death for power. Antigone, Oedipus's daughter, buries her deceased brother despite the law of Creon, the city's new ruler, which prohibits the burial of enemies. Ay Teatro brings together the three essential pieces of the Theban cycle in a single choral performance, with a young cast that sings and narrates, embodying all the characters of a family saga that transgresses social taboos to the ultimate consequences. The Theban chorus, witness to and participant in the succession of catastrophes, offers us an ethical and moral mirror that reflects the great founding questions of coexistence: Are crimes and guilt hereditary? Should truth be sought at any price? Is there a boundary between reason and belief? Should the state prevail over the individual? What distinguishes ally from enemy? What is the line between justice and law? In short: who are we?
