RADIZZ plays with the word radix (from Latin), which means root in its most physical sense, anchoring the tree to the earth, but it also speaks to the starting point, the very foundation of something, in this case, music. We also wanted to play with the double Z, a hallmark of the word Jazz, which for us is a way of making music with absolute freedom, transcending borders and styles.

RADIZZ is an original group that combines different worlds: original composition, the aesthetics of contemporary jazz, and improvisation, with the unifying element of folklore and traditional music from Castile and León. Some of these traditional pieces have been included in their songbooks by composers such as Agapito Marazuela, Joaquín Díaz, and Miguel Manzano. Composing and arranging these pieces in a contemporary style represents a contribution to renewing our traditional music, as has already been widely done in other genres such as flamenco and traditional Catalan music.
The fundamental idea is to launch a contemporary ensemble, a hybrid of the traditional and jazz worlds, to play traditional Castilian and Leonese music in a contemporary key and with creative elements derived from jazz and improvisation.
