Museum of Avila. November 22nd, the feast day of Saint Cecilia, patron saint of musicians, is also celebrated as International Musician's Day.

The Museum of Avila houses an important collection of musical instruments, both classical and folk, spanning from the 18th to the 20th centuries, as well as other pieces directly related to musical heritage. One such example is the painting of Saint Cecilia by the Ávila-born painter Manuel Sánchez Ramos (1855-1940), commissioned in 1899 by the musician Robustiano Martín, a fellow Ávila native and friend of the painter, and recently acquired by the museum.
For many years, at the beginning of the 20th century, at the initiative of the cathedral organist Eliso Martín Arribas, son of Robustiano, the work -blessed in the church of La Santa- was taken to the Cathedral every day of Saint Cecilia, so that the musicians of Ávila could honor their patron saint.
The oil painting, donated to the Museum of Avila by Alfonso de Vicente Delgado, musicologist and descendant of the Martín Arribas family, will be on display at the Casa de los Deanes from November 18th to December 7th.

In this context, on November 23rd a concert will be offered by the Ribera Quartet (string quartet), formed within the Castilla y León Symphony Orchestra by Liz Moore, Iván Artaraz, Jokin Urtasun and Jordi Creus, who will perform 20th century compositions (María de Pablos and Maurice Ravel).

The concert will be at 12:00 pm, admission is free until capacity is reached, and it will be streamed live through the EXHIBITIONS and ACTIVITIES MUSEUM OF CONTEMPORARY ART OF CASTILLA Y LEÓNThis link will open in a pop-up window.
