Vicente Haya is a renowned Spanish PhD in Philosophy, essayist, translator, and university professor specializing in Eastern cultures and Semitic spirituality. He is internationally recognized as one of the leading Spanish-speaking experts on Japanese poetry (Japanology). A disciple of Reiji Nagakawa, he has taught introductory courses on haiku for many years.

He is also a part-time professor at the National Distance Education University since 2005 and a lecturer specializing in interreligious dialogue.

He is the author of Haiku-dô. The haiku as a spiritual path, Aware: Initiation into Japanese haiku and Shizen: Mysticism of nature and nature of mysticism in haiku (published by Kairós), The Innocence of haiku (Vaso Roto), Tasting Water: 100 haikus by a Zen monk (Hiperión) and The Naked Monk: 100 haikus (Miraguano)
