The central idea for Women Writers' Day 2025 was to ask: What were women publishing around the pivotal year of 1975, the year that changed everything? Therefore, Anna Caballé seeks to delve into a year—to pierce it, so to speak—and explore what women were writing and publishing around 1975. What books they were known for at that time. The result is like a still photo, capturing a literary spectrum: from Carmen Martín Gaite or Cristina Peri Rossi to the humility of newsstand literature represented by Corín Tellado; or the death of Lidia Falcón and Carmen Alcalde; the poetry of María Beneyto and playwright Ana Diosdado, among others.
In any case, 2025 is also a special year for Women Writers' Day, as we commemorate the tenth anniversary of this initiative, promoted by the National Library of Spain with the support of the feminist associations FEDEPE and Clásicas y Modernas.
This is an initiative organised by the National Library of Spain, the Spanish Federation of Female Professional Managers and Executives and Businesswomen (FEDEPE) and the association Clásicas y Modernas, Association for the equality of women and men in Culture. It will also have the collaboration of Acción Cultural Española (ACE) and the Spanish Centre for Reprographic Rights (CEDRO).
