Mattia Bidoli is a humanitarian worker, photographer, and magician. For over 20 years, he has traveled to the most vulnerable corners of the planet—hospitals, orphanages, refugee camps, prisons, and war zones—carrying a backpack containing two powerful tools: a camera and a handful of magic. With them, he offers much more than entertainment or images; he delivers moments of relief, wonder, and profound humanity.
Wonders in the Shadows invites the viewer to embark on a visual journey through some of the most remote and conflict-scarred regions. There, where childhood has been stolen, where scars are visible and daily pain is present, his photographs focus on those who suffer the most: the children. Yet, in their eyes, a spark persists, a flicker of hope that endures. He not only documents the harshness of these places, but goes further: he reveals the intimate connection between magic and hope. Through Mattia's lens, we witness magical performances in extremely fragile contexts and, at the same time, the stories of children who, despite everything, find reasons to smile. Each image builds a bridge between the impossible and the human, between illusionism and real life. We see the children marveling at the magic, but also facing their losses, their fears, and their infinite capacity for resilience. Magic thus becomes a spark of light amidst the darkness; the stories, a testament to the power of the human spirit. The exhibition intertwines the art of healing with the harshness of war and pain, reminding us that even in the darkest places, there is still beauty, there are still dreams, there is still hope.
