The northwest of the province of Zamora is a natural paradise in its own right. The magical setting outlined by the mountains that border Leon and Galicia is home to one of the most iconic ecosystems in Spain around the legendary Lake Sanabria, the largest of glacial origin on the Peninsula, an inexhaustible source of legends and custodian of an eternal beauty.
Approximately halfway, between the beautiful Historical Complex of Puebla de Sanabria and the lake itself, surrounded by a serene oak grove, stands a modern building harmoniously integrated into the environment to house the House of the Lago de Sanabria and Sierras Segundera Natural Park and Porto.
The reception distributes the exhibition space, in addition to providing all the information about the park and other protected spaces in Castile and León to plan a visit to the environment.
The first room, called "Get to know the Natural Park" proposes an approach to the different habitats according to altitude, since this is a determining value that here ranges from 997 meters at lake level to 2,124 meters at Peña Trevinca, which encourages a rich variety of flora and fauna.
"Geology and glacierism" is the next room, dedicated to the natural phenomenon with ice tongues of more than twenty kilometers that gave rise to the formation of the lake one hundred thousand years ago.
This Zamorano corner is also an open-air ethnographic museum and in the "Memory Corner" room, tribute is paid to past ways of life, the most recent memories and the many legends that are part of the local culture.
The Network of Natural Spaces of Castile and León is also present in the Casa del Parque with a good number of exhibition elements that provide all the information of interest on the rich set of protected spaces in the region.
Before leaving the interior of the building, an informative video with masterful sequence shots is projected in the audiovisual room, further showing the majesty of this unique ecosystem.
On a more academic level, the Casa del Parque Natural Lago de Sanabria y Sierras Segundera y de Porto has an Information and Documentation Center for use by visitors as well, as well as a limnology laboratory to control the environmental quality of the environment.
The visit ends in the surroundings of the Park House enjoying a 650-meter-long interpretive path that is fully adapted to people with disabilities, with more than eighty botanical species representative of the natural space and an ecological garden in the Sanabré style.
