A good part of the northeast of the province of Leon is occupied by the Riaño and Mampodre Mountain Regional Park, where the Esla River is born, one of the main river channels of the Duero basin. On its way it encounters the town of Lario which, in addition to preserving good examples of popular architecture, keeps alive the robust building that was once the Civil Guard barracks, today converted into the Valdeburón Park House.
The reception of the exhibition space allows a first approach to the natural environment thanks to a general map and a brief audiovisual, in addition to complete information on the services and possibilities of enjoying the unique biodiversity of the Park, without forgetting the details of the rest of the Natural Spaces. "2000 meters of unevenness, diversity and contrasts" is the title that presides over the first room of the informative space that leads to a journey through the different ecosystems that alternate from the deep valleys to the highest peaks, with all the explanatory details and maps.
The didactic function is structured according to natural conditions. Thus, "the bottom of the valley" shows how the landscape has been modified by the action of man since time immemorial in his fight for survival in an environment rich in nutrients, water, flora and fauna.
The "half-mountain: the multicolored forest" room explains how the different tree species adapt to the altitude and climatic conditions depending on the orientation of the slopes, forming a changing color palette according to the seasons of the year.
Little by little the visit approaches the roof of the Park in the room "the high peaks: the domain of stone", where the strong slopes and extreme weather conditions make the stone the protagonist of the landscape, but here there is also life and Some plant and animal species are a magnificent example of adaptation.
"The corner of memory" is a tribute to the ways of life and how man has known how to use the stone and wood that the natural environment provided to build his own home, his stables or his chorcos de lobos (traditional traps for wolf hunting), developing its own popular style of architecture. Thus the communities settled and forged their traditions, their culture and their games, creating an ethnographic wealth of incalculable value.
The visit ends in the audiovisual room with the projection of an interesting explanatory video of the values and curiosities that make this corner of León so surprising.
