It is a limestone bridge, with a winding layout and a slightly curved deck, located over the Pisuerga River south of the historic center.

It rises on seventeen arches that rest on piers founded on the rock of the riverbed, reaching a total length of about 250m. It has a continuous and cantilevered stone parapet, which is supported on corbels.

Its arches are of uneven construction, with spans ranging from 5.50m to 11.20m, ten of them pointed and the remaining seven semicircular. The upstream cutwaters are triangular to divert the water current, while downstream there are also rectangular spurs.

The theory of the Roman origin of the Simancas bridge has been maintained practically until today without any substantial arguments, beyond the antiquity of the settlement of the urban center and the mention of Simancas - the Roman Septimanca - in the Antonine Itinerary as part of the XXIV road that linked Augusta Emerita (Mérida) with Caesaraugusta (Zaragoza).
