Volume II of the book *Popular Music and Oral Tradition in El Carracillo (Segovia)* represents a fundamental contribution to the understanding and preservation of Segovia's traditional musical heritage. In this second installment, Pablo Zamarrón continues and expands upon the exhaustive work begun in the first volume, delving deeper into the musical repertoires linked to the festive, religious, and work calendar of the El Carracillo region. The work stands out for its ethnographic rigor and the care with which the songs are contextualized within the social and cultural life of the villages that created and transmitted them orally.
The book is organized into seven chapters dedicated to the main traditional songs of the annual festive and religious cycle. It comprises over five hundred pages of musical scores and an extensive sound archive based on the testimonies of more than two hundred informants. The combination of transcribed music, recordings, and oral tradition makes the work an essential reference for researchers, performers, and folklore enthusiasts alike.
Pablo Zamarrón Yuste, a musicologist and folklorist from Segovia, originally from Arroyo de Cuéllar, specializes in the traditional music and oral traditions of Castile. A graduate in History and Musicology from the Complutense University of Madrid, he has dedicated decades to the collection and study of intangible musical heritage. Since the 1970s, he has conducted extensive fieldwork, gathering songs and testimonies of oral transmission. His work goes beyond mere collection: he analyzes, organizes, and returns to the community a heritage that forms part of its collective identity.
