During the month of March, we will have the pleasure of hosting the series "Writing is defending the solitude in which one finds oneself: women's writings that illuminate our present." These words were written by María Zambrano for the magazine de Occidente in 1934, where she reflects on the reasons for the act of writing.

With this idea in mind, four conferences organized by Claudio Moyano Arellano will be held at the Library.

"Writing is defending the solitude in which one finds oneself; it is an action that only springs from an effective isolation, but from a communicable isolation, in which, precisely because of the distance from all concrete things, a discovery of relationships between them becomes possible" ( Why We Write / María Zambrano )

The last talk will be given by Alicia Mendoza Galindo on March 25 at 6:30 pm about Narrating the untamed: the voice of Agustina Bessa-Luís.

Alicia Mendoza Galindo holds a degree in Hispanic Philology from the University of Valladolid and is a tenured secondary school teacher of Language and Literature in Segovia. She is a translator of Agustina Bessa-Luís , one of the key voices in 20th-century Portuguese literature. Her translation of the novel Joya de familia (Family Jewel) stands out for the finesse with which she conveys Bessa-Luís's characteristic syntactic complexity, irony, and conceptual density into Spanish. She is currently working on the translation of the second part, a project that deepens her critical and linguistic dialogue with the Portuguese author.
